We were cheered that within a week of the App being available, the local paper in Arran, the Arran Banner ran a news piece.
It’s really quite strange when you have been working on something like the App using your home computer, to suddenly see the result sitting in a newspaper.
Emma from Embrace Scotland contacted us:
She had been to Arran last year on her honeymoon and loved it. She and her new husband had set off on one of the many beautiful walks and had got lost! She could immediately see the advantages of having the walking App.
Here’s her blog post: Tips from the locals: The Isle of Arran
Embrace Scotland specialises in finding Self Catering accommodation in Scotland.
Technically, Arran presents a bit of a challenge: The mobile phone signal is ‘patchy’ at best. That said, we found a lot of the guesthouses, hotels and cafe/restaurants have free WiFi. Once the App is downloaded, the phone signal doesn’t matter.
To date, our promotion of the App has involved phone calls, emails, posters, flyers and frankly a lot of just wandering into shops and hotels on Arran and chatting to people. It’s not that we’re against online promotion or social media – far from it, but personally nothing beats face-to-face conversation and the feedback it provides. Also, it gives us more excuses to visit Arran….now, that can only be a good thing.
